ACLA MEMBERSHIP

Asian Cultural Landscape Association (ACLA) is a non-profit organization in the service to make the happy, peaceful, and sustainable cultural landscapes of Asia.

ACLA members are in 58 countries/regions. The total members: 592 individuals.

The Asia Region is divided into six spatial and cultural realms, covering 52 countries / regions:


1. Northern Asia : 1 (Siberia Federal District, Russia)

2. Central Asia : 5 (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan)

3. Eastern Asia : 8 (China People’s Rep., HongKong-China, Japan, South Korea, North Korea, Macao-China, Mongolia, Taiwan-China);

4. Western Asia : 18 (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Cyprus, Georgia, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestinian Territories, Qatar, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Syria, UAE, Yemen);

5. Southern Asia : 09 (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Islamic Rep. Iran, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka); and

6. South-East Asia : 11 (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao Pdr., Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Vietnam).


ACLA Members Categories


There are three ACLA membership categories:

The first, let say general members, those members based on the ACLA database, meaning anyone who had participated in ACLA symposiums and/or activities on a national scale that presented guest speaker, The ACLA President. The total numbers is 592 members from 58 countries/regions of all over the world.


The second, are the ones who are also officially registered members, those members who are registered with a membership number and had received a membership certificate.

For the second category, there are 63 members until today (16 Dec 2023). The list is as follows.



The third, is the Executive Committee members of ACLA, consisting of the president, vice president, secretary, country/region representatives (delegates), and youth committee directors. They are all 26 members.

For the third category, there are 27 Executive Committee members, with significant role. They are as follows.



01. ACLA-001-001 | Prof. Sung-Kyun Kim, Ph.D. | The ACLA Founder President

Kim, Sung-Kyun (金晟均) was born on 18 February 1956 in Mungyeong-si (city), Gyeongsangbuk-do (province), Korea. He was a professor in the Department ofnLandscape Architecture and Rural Systems Engineering, Seoul National University, Korea.

He found the ACLA in 2009 and officially declared it on 3 December 2012 in Malaysia, and played the role of ACLA President until 31 December 2017.

He was the president of Korean Institute of Landscape Architecture (KILA) in the period of 2015 to 2016. He was also the president of Korean Society of Rural Planning.

Prof. Kim devoted his passion and energy in IFLA while serving both IFLA South Korean Delegate, and IFLA Cultural Landscape Committee Chairperson, during 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2019).

Kim, Sung-Kyun achieved his PhD in City and Regional Planning, and Master in both, Art, and Landscape Architecture, in University of Pennsylvania, U.S.A. He achieved his BSLA in Seoul National University, Korea. His main focus included landscape design and planning, cultural landscape, participatory design, landscape history and landscape materials.

His implemented main design projects are ‘Deoksugung-gil Pedestrian Oriented Street Design’, 'Gyeongeuiseon Line Forest Park Design’, Yangji Park Community Participatory Design’, and ‘Banpo Raemian Apartment Landscape Design’(achieving Design Awards from IFLA and Seoul Metropolitan City Government). He was also in the committee boards of the government, such as Prime Minister, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Ministry of Forest Service, Ministry of Public Procurement Service, Seoul Metropolitan City, etc.

He was teaching, researching, practicing in Landscape Architecture since 1988. He was a professor of landscape architecture at Seoul National University since March 28th 1994.

Kim, Sung-Kyun kept teaching, researching, and practicing landscape architecture and regional planning in Korea, and also in many other countries all over the world, as a guest lecturer invited by many universities, and as a consultant, invited by many foreign governments. He kept teaching, researching, and practicing landscape architecture and regional planning until a week before he died on June 19, 2020. And he was still as the professor in SNU, and as the chairman of Mungyeong City Policy Advisory Group until the day he died.
