ACLA : LOGO, DIRECTION, and ACTIVITIES

The Logo of ACLA

The overall ACLA logo expressed ACLA is an Asia-based platform that providing Asians a democratic roundtable for discussing about Asian Cultural Landscapes. - It is also a metaphysical exposition of the aims and objectives of this foundation: ‘A’ symbolises the beginning and returning (‘A’) through the cyclic notion of continuity ‘C’, and attached ‘L’denotes the locomotive function of longevity.

ACLA Direction

- ACLA is a non-political, non-governmental and non-profit democratic organization in the service to make the happy, peaceful and sustainable cultural landscapes of Asia.
- ACLA focus on the cross-disciplinary and interdisciplinary study of cultural landscape.
- ACLA also mainly highlight the ‘Cultural Landscapes as Living Cultural-Sustainable Resources in Asia’.




ACLA Activities

• Documentation & Communication
Setting up a Knowledge Databank for Cultural Landscapes and Cultural Heritage Resource and an Expertise Locator.
• Networking
Establishing an electronic communication network linking members through the Internet and SNS facilitating partnerships and knowledge exchange.
• Public Campaigns
Organization of seminars, workshops, exhibitions, field trips, awareness drives, etc.
• Publications
Publishing of a journal, newsletter, information brochures, and workshop papers.
• Technical Assistance
Provide technical expertise to sites/ culture areas; assistance in landscape planning interventions for heritage based sustainable and balanced cultural landscape development.
• Partnerships
Brokering partnerships between members to exchange experience and good practice in cultural landscape conservation and development
• Training
Organizing training programmes for members of the ACLA through study tours, technical workshops/tours.
• Thematic workshops and conferences
Organization of workshops and conferences; promoting co-sharing experiences, wisdom and realising the common roots.
• Education and capacity building
Develop a system of short term courses, mid term trainings, long term educational curricula for students.
• Annual International Symposium
The first one was in Malaysia
The latest one was in China, and
The next one, the 13thACLA International Symposium in the 2024, will be held in Indonesia.

THE SPIRIT OF ACLA   Since he was a child, Sung-Kyun Kim had paid lots of attention to the natural environment and Korean traditional culture in his homeland, in Korea. Sung was born in the city of Mungyeong-si, three years after the end of the Korean war.   The history which divided the country on the Korean peninsula into two, North Korea and South Korea. Asian Cultural Landscape Association (ACLA) i s a non-profit organization in the service to make the happy, peaceful, and sustainable cultural landscapes of Asia. ACLA members are in 58 countries/regions. The total members: 592 individuals. The Asia Region is divided into six spatial and cultural realms, covering 52 countries / regions: 1.
